Technical Advisor at Joyce Kitchens
Not every cabinet manufacturer in Perth is lucky enough to have their own Technical Team, or for that matter our Head Technical Advisor Paul Underwood!
Paul is a great asset to the Joyce team, he oversees all of our Technical drawings and relays all details to our factory based in O’Connor.
A qualified cabinet maker by trade, Paul finished his apprenticeship in 2005 and first began working for Joyce Kitchens in 2012.
His background in machining, drafting, scheduling, measuring and creating technical plans for construction are all of huge benefit to his skills as our Technical Advisor.
The Joyce Technical Team play a very important role in the manufacturing process as these initial technical drawings are what keep the whole design process on track and to precise measurement.
Paul’s job is to ensure everything is drawn correctly and the kitchen or bathroom designs function efficiently within the space, meaning drawers, doors and appliances all work seamlessly together when being opened and closed. He works mainly from a CAD-based program called Cabinet Vision.
“It is the Technical Advisor’s role to stop any mistakes getting through to the factory so that all of the manufacturing runs smoothly,” he said.
“I like the technical drawing side of the cabinet-making process because it keeps your mind constantly working. You have to think about the design from all angles, how the cupboards open around the appliances, where the handles will meet, make sure the drawers don’t open onto any other cabinet and to make sure each measurement is correct.
“Our job is to make sure the designers plans are functional and work the way they imagined.”
Paul says he enjoys the renovation industry because it is constantly changing and no two projects are the same, and he really enjoys the interaction with clients when he goes out to site.
